Gluten Cutter – Does This Allow You to Really Eat Gluten?

gluten cutter
Gluten Cutter claims that its enzyme allows gluten intolerant people eat foods containing gluten without the normal side effects.

I stumbled upon this product today in the pharmacy department at Walmart called Gluten Cutter. It immediately caught my attention because as far as I knew there was nothing available that allows a person with gluten sensitivity to eat gluten. I have heard of vaccines but nothing that you could buy over-the-counter.

The box states that “Gluten Cutter helps digest wheat, dairy, and other grains”. The box then explains what gluten is, where it can be found, and how their product is supposed to circumvent the negative effects of gluten. The secret sauce appears to be in their proprietary blend of enzymes named GCX50. There is no explanation how this magic enzyme actually executes this previously impossible feat. The box is very clear in stating that these claims have NOT been evaluated by the FDA so… good luck! We hope it doesn’t make your symptoms worse!

Well, Does It Really Work?

The jury seems to still be out on that one. In reviews on one reviewer states:

Works for gluten intolerance – I have been gluten-free for 2 1/2 years. I have tried this product twice and I was able to eat bakery products with wheat flour in them without getting sick to my stomach. – By M. Wheeler – May 27, 2013

But then someone else comes along with the opposite review:

Gluten intolerant – I have a gluten intolerance so I wanted to try this product for when I am out at a restaurant. The first time I tried it I had bad stomach cramps a few hours later. I tried it once again to see if the bad reaction was from something else. I had another bad reaction, although it was not as immediate. Sadly, this product made me react in a worse manner than when I do eat gluten products. – By Janna Owens – August 20, 2013

This seems to fall into the same category as most that deal with celiac disease – what works for one person may not necessarily work for another. There seem to be enough positive verses negative comments in the Amazon product page to make it interesting enough for me to try. I just have to figure out when I can afford to be brave in the case that things don’t go so well.

Have Your Tried Gluten Cutter?

If so sound off in the comment section and let us know how it worked for you. Even if you haven’t tried it yet, now that you know it is out there, will you try it? Let us know about this as well. I’ll report back when I work up the courage.

  1. I use GlutenEase by Enzymedica! High quality enzyme and lifesaver. Can purchase at whole foods or order online. They also sell a basic digestive enzyme for overall GI health/support.

  2. How well does it work though? Also, do you have a gluten intolerance or do you actually have Celiac disease? I’m interested because my son and I have Celiac and I had never heard of this until the other day.

  3. I have issues with the claims made on the box. I feel like they made lead someone with celiac to think you can take this drug and suddenly you can eat a doughnut. No no no! One thing I noticed is that the digestive enzymes are that, they are similar to Lactaid. There are also other ingredients that help sooth your stomach such as ginger and Peppermint oil.

Here’s my experience. I’ve seen this stuff on shelves. Tonight my gluten free pizza from a supposedly GIG trained pizza joint was contaminated. I don’t need to describe the symptoms. I was pretty desperate because it was the first time my reaction was that violent. I’m still having an aversion to all food right now. The stuff did seem to help me. Between this and drinking a lot of water and green tea to flush the toxins out, I got over it quick. My plan is to take it before eating gluten free food when I eat out.

  4. I took this once, I have celiac and I didn’t have normal “glutened” reaction, instead my tummy didn’t hurt, but later my bum-hole burned like fire, and continued for over a day. Suggestion, if you have celiac don’t do it!

  5. I don’t think I have celiac, but I do have some type of allergy or something weird with wheat and/or gluten. When I eat it, the next day I will feel like I have the flu, but not any stomach problems, just really bad pain all over and a migraine headache, sometimes it lasts 2 days and the pain level is very high. Last night I gave Glutten Cutter a try. I ate a half of a large apple turnover with the flakiest crust I’ve had in 40 years. I took 2 capsules of Glutten Cutter and today I’ve had no reaction like normal. Nothing! I will continue to “test” glutten cutter now and then and see what happens. I’ll slowly work my way up to larger servings of wheat/gluten because trust me I don’t want to risk getting a really bad normal reaction, it’s really that bad. This stuff could literally change my life!

  6. Worked the first time. And the couple times after that I had gluten attacks. I have celiacs and DONT recommended it at all. I currently have brain fog and nausea due to gluten. They are not FDA approved or tested. Its a scam and a waste of money. And they’re not what I would call cheap. No thanks. Hope this helps out.

  7. So glad I found this product. Works great for me. Terrible acid reflux when eating any gluten. Have taken antacids and then acid reducers daily for decades. Also lactose intolerant. No longer! I take one of these gluten enzyme pills before eating ice cream, pizza, bread or pasta and have not had any acid reflux since. Great when traveling when food choices are often limited. So glad I found it in my local drugstore.

  8. Whoever invented Gluten Cutter by Healthy Digestives earned his/her way to heaven. I am so lucky that I found this product because I was able to enjoy gluten and dairy products again. I have been on this gluten digestive formula for 18 months and I could not find better words to thank for this product. I have a very high gluten and dairy intolerance and after taking “Gluten Cutter” I tested the limits by eating a bag of bagels with cream cheese, pizza for lunch and other things loaded with gluten and milk and I had no nasty consequences. I put condensed milk in my coffee and I felt great!!!

My doctor told me not to take “Charco Caps” (used for the relief of intestinal pain, pressure and bloating due to gas) if I take Gluten Cutter because it will cut the Gluten Cutter digestive aid effect. So just remember that these two do not go together. If I have bloating from beans, corn, peppers, soy products, cabbage, onions or seeds I take “Beano” which helps to prevent gas and cramps.

Thank you “Gluten Cutter” for making me enjoy gluten and dairy again.

  9. Yes this product works well for me. I have have celiac disease so I have to be very careful. I take 2 tablets before eating anything with gluten. The few things I cannot eat at all even with gluten cutters is gravy and biscuits. . Hope this helps.

  10. I purchased this last week. I have had problems with everything I eat making me fell bloated and wishing I never had to eat again. I saw this in the store and decided to try’s fabulous ! I have tried so many things that didn’t work. Since I started taking this just before a meal I have felt great and can eat all the foods I love.I just hope they never quit making it! I mentioned it to a friend of mine who has celiac disease. I let her have some of mine to try, and she loves it! She said she feels better than she has felt in a long time.

  11. I always keep this on hand. If I have any concerns about cross contamination at all, I take two right before I start eating. I do not use it so that I can intentionally consume gluten. If you do consume gluten, even if your standard symptoms do not show up, the damage is still being done inside your body. There are no easy outs for a disease like this.

  12. Hey- I have tried Gluten Cutter. I don’t use it to eat foods explicitly with gluten content but rather to take care of food that might be contaminated with gluten- like when going to a restaurant. It seems to work for this purpose but I have not tried it and eaten something knowingly packed with gluten. Also, I have not used it long term nor regularly over a period longer than 3 days.
